Taking Action from a Place of Strength
From Executive Director Jannelle Codianni —
I have important news to share about ātac and our 2021-2022 season. After careful consideration, the Board of Directors and I have decided to cancel all remaining feature shows for our 2021-2022 season. This program includes most of our Friday and Saturday ticketed performances. Although it wasn’t easy, this decision was motivated by our deep respect and appreciation for working musicians and performers. It's important that ātac continues to be a venue where performers feel valued, supported, and fairly compensated. Unfortunately, our ticket sales haven’t bounced back to pre-pandemic levels. Without reliable ticket revenue, we can’t provide our performers with fair compensation or produce live shows at the level our community expects.
I know this might sound dire, especially after all the pandemic shutdowns and losses, but I assure you we’re taking this step from a position of strength. The challenges of the past two years have come hand in hand with opportunities to connect to the heart of our mission: to nurture community through creativity. As a result, we have developed new programs, focused on stabilizing our operations, and created powerful collaborations. I’m proud to say that with the support of our community and careful oversight of our resources, ātac is in a better place than we were three years ago. ātac has a bright future, but getting there relies on continuing to use our human and financial resources wisely.
Some things are going great, like our new collaborations and programs, and we want to understand the best way to build that success. Some things aren’t working, and we need to figure out why so we can better serve our mission and our community of performers, artists, and you. So, we’re taking a strategic step back to evaluate our work and listen to our community. Over the next several months, we’ll be working with SOAR Management Consulting Group to create a strategic plan.
We need your help with this! In the coming weeks, I’ll be reaching out with invitations for one-on-one conversations about your experiences with creativity, ātac, and what you’d like to see in your community. Please keep an eye out for that invite in your inbox!
ātac could not have made it this far without the continued support of our community, and we are profoundly grateful. It’s a significant privilege to have the opportunity to create an intentional path forward, and I’m honored to work with you to help steward ātac into its next chapter.
We’re far from closing our doors. Although we’ve canceled some upcoming shows, there’s still a lot to be a part of! Thursday night open mics and jams will start up in March, as well as Rock off Main, A Common Thread Theater Company's spring production, and of course, our June event, A Night at the Circus. I hope to see you at some of these upcoming events!
Please reach out with any questions. I would love to hear from you.
Sincerely,
Jannelle Codianni
Executive Director
